Information about Examinations

 

In a Nut Shell:  There are two types of problems on examinations (shown in the table below) in

Statics, Dynamics, Solid Mechanics, and Fluid Mechanics. 

 

 

Types of Problems on Examinations

 

 

Traditional Format Problems

 

Given information is provided

and you are asked to

calculate one or more answers.

 

 

There will be only one correct answer.

 

You will turn in your calculations

and your answers at the end of the exam.

 

 

Both your calculations and your

answers will be evaluated.

 

 

You will receive either full or

partial credit on each problem.

 

 

 

Modified Format Problems

 

Given information is provided

and you are asked to

select your answer from a

list of possible answers.

 

 

More than one correct answer may be possible

from the list of answers.

 

You will turn in your calculations

and your answers at the end of the exam.

 

 

Your calculations will not be evaluated.

 

You will receive either full or

zero credit on each problem.

 

 

Traditional format problems

focus on specific answers and not

generally on concepts.

 

 

Modified format problems may focus

on concepts.
