Pipes in Series, Pipes in Parallel. and Pipes in a Loop

Key Concepts:  A pipeline (such as the Alaskan pipeline) may consist of a single pipeline of constant diameter or may continue along the line with changing diameters.  Such a case is termed "pipes in

series".    Another possibility is that the pipeline may branch along the line into a series of parallel

pipes.  Such a case is termed "pipes in parallel".

The two charts below give the basic relations for pipes in series and pipes in parallel.
