Interpretation of concavity:  (Take the second derivative of  f(x)    i.e.  f ‘’ )

 

  If    f ’’(x)  > 0  , then curve is concave up  (bends upward)               See figure below.

 

  If   f ’’(x)  <  0  ,  then curve is concave down (bends downward)     See figure below.
