Construction of Velocity and Acceleration Vectors in Planar Motion

 

 

In a Nut Shell:  Construction of the velocity and acceleration vectors shows how each

component of velocity or acceleration add up vector wise to yield the total velocity or

total acceleration of any given point in a rigid link.   The table below shows the equations

for relative velocity and relative acceleration for any two points in the same rigid link

undergoing plane motion.

 

    

 

                              vC  =    vA  +  vC/A

or

                              vC  =    vA  +  ω x rAC

 

Relative Velocity Equation for Link

 

                     aC  =    aA  +  aC/A |n  +  aC/A |t 

or

                     aC  =  aA  ˗  ω2 rAC  +  α x rAC  

 

Relative Acceleration Equation for Link
